Event Idea: Midnight over Manhattan

The eclipse was supposed to last seven minutes.

It never ended.

Now Manhattan is locked under a black sun, surrounded by mystic barriers, and divided between supernatural factions. The bridges vanish at night. Subway tunnels lead into Hell. Skyscrapers grow teeth. Churches become fortresses. Hospitals fill with prophetic patients. The Hudson reflects worlds that should never touch Earth.

The heroes are trapped inside with millions of civilians. They don’t need to save the universe, they need to save the city before the city becomes something else.

Major Threat

The event begins with several factions fighting for control, but the true villain is Dormammu, using the eclipse to slowly merge Manhattan with the Dark Dimension. Mephisto, Dracula, Morgan le Fay, Nightmare, and the Hood all believe they can exploit the crisis, but Dormammu is letting them weaken the city’s defenses.

Great Heroes for the Event

Daredevil, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Clea, Moon Knight, Blade, Elsa Bloodstone, Ghost Rider, Magik, Nico Minoru, Cloak and Dagger, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Black Cat, Werewolf by Night, and Wong all fit perfectly.

Key Locations

Hell’s Kitchen: Daredevil’s neighborhood becomes a battlefield between demons and street gangs using stolen relics.

Sanctum Sanctorum: The last stable mystic anchor in the city.

Times Square: A nightmare carnival where advertisements whisper forbidden bargains.

Central Park: Grows into an ancient haunted forest ruled by things older than humanity.

The Subway: Trains move between realms. Every stop is dangerous.

The Chrysler Building: Transformed into a silver occult spire channeling the eclipse.

Harlem: Protected by community magic, church wards, and Luke Cage holding the line.

Event Structure

Act One: The Eclipse Falls

The heroes respond to supernatural disasters across the city. Civilians vanish. Buildings change shape. Old villains gain new powers. The first goal is survival and evacuation.

Act Two: Boroughs of Shadow

The heroes discover Manhattan has been divided into occult territories. Each faction holds a piece of the ritual keeping the eclipse in place. To end it, the heroes must break alliances, rescue civilians, and seize the ritual keys.

Act Three: The Dark City Rises

Dormammu begins pulling Manhattan fully into the Dark Dimension. The heroes must defend the Sanctum, destroy the eclipse engine, and choose whether to bargain with one evil to defeat another.

Watcher Moves

Use the Doom Pool to make the city feel alive and hostile. Spend Doom dice to introduce cursed weather, demonic crowds, possessed landmarks, collapsing wards, trapped civilians, realm-shifts, blackouts, blood moons, or a villain claiming territory.

Good Complications include:

  • “Lost in the Wrong Subway Line”
  • “Demonic Possession”
  • “Reality Bleed”
  • “Cursed Bargain”
  • “The City Is Watching”
  • “Eclipse Madness”

Central Theme

Midnight Over Manhattan is about protecting ordinary people when the world becomes impossible. The heroes are keeping neighborhoods alive, defending homes, and proving that Manhattan belongs to its people, not to the monsters trying to claim it.
