Marvel Plot Points

Event Idea: Mystic Mayhem

The mobile game Mystic Mayhem has a really interesting premise, one that would work perfect for Marvel Heroic.

Nightmare has found a way to pull the waking world into the Dreamscape, twisting familiar places into reflections of fear.

People across New York stop waking up. At first, it looks like illness. Then whole neighborhoods begin changing overnight. Streets become endless hospital corridors. Avengers Tower turns into a broken monument where the heroes failed everyone. The Sanctum Sanctorum opens into a thousand impossible rooms. Central Park becomes a moonlit forest where every path leads back to a childhood fear.

Nightmare is not invading Earth with armies, he’s just making the world dream. The heroes must enter nightmare-realms shaped by their own doubts, failures, guilt, and fears, then stop Nightmare before the Dreamscape fully replaces reality.

Good Complications during the Event include:

  • “Trapped in Your Worst Memory”
  • “The Dreamscape Lies”
  • “Fear Made Flesh”
  • “Reality Slipping Away”
  • “Can’t Tell If This Is Real”

The Doom Pool becomes Nightmare’s control over the dream. Every time heroes give into fear, hesitate, or confront something painful, the dream grows stronger.

Great Heroes for the Event

Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Magik, Nico Minoru, Blade, Spider-Man, Storm, Daredevil, Cloak and Dagger, Iron Fist, Elsa Bloodstone, and Loki all fit well.

You can also include non-mystic heroes. Iron Man facing a nightmare where every suit turns against him, Captain America trapped in a war that never ends, or Spider-Man seeing everyone he failed to save.

Event Structure

Act One: No One Wakes

The heroes investigate sleeping victims, shifting streets, and monsters slipping out of dreams. They discover that ordinary people are being used as anchors to pull the Dreamscape into the real world.

Act Two: Fear Realms

Each hero must enter a nightmare shaped around someone’s fear, including their own. These scenes should should reveal character.

Act Three: The Nightmare Throne

The heroes reach Nightmare’s palace inside the Dreamscape. To defeat him, they must deny him control, break the anchors, and help people wake up.

Key Scenes

The Sleeping Hospital: Rows of patients whisper the heroes’ secrets while dream-creatures crawl along the ceiling.

The Fear Market: Demons sell bottled nightmares, stolen courage, and memories people paid to forget.

The Broken Sanctum: Doctor Strange’s home becomes a maze where every door opens to a failed spell.

The Hero Who Never Woke: A beloved hero has become Nightmare’s champion, convinced the dream is kinder than reality.

The Door Home: The final escape appears as something simple and personal to each hero, but reaching it requires accepting a truth they have avoided.

–

Mystic Mayhem is about fear as a prison. Nightmare wins when heroes believe their worst moments define them. The event gives players a chance to face those fears directly, rescue others from despair, and prove that courage is not the absence of fear.
