Hero Datafile: Spider-Man 2099

Happy New Year

What better way to celebrate a new year than with the Spider-Man of the future? Spidey 2099 (Miguel O’Hara) debuted back in 1992 as the introduction of the new 2099 universe (Earth-928 if you are counting) and his series ran for 46 issues. Miguel came back for a run in the Exiles book (#75-99). Recently he re-appeared in Superior Spider-Man #17-19 which ended with him stranded in the current Earth-616. Now he’s back with his own regular series (with original writer Peter David). It’s a series that I have been really enjoying. I loved the original 2099 books, so it’s great for me to see him making a comeback.

The new series is a bit of a different take as it shows Miguel dealing with living in the past, working for his own grandfather for the company that gives him so much grief in the future. For this version of Spidey 2099, I tried to capture him as you see him just before the events of the Spider-Verse arc.

Miguel was (is? will be?) head of the genetics department at the Alchemax megacorp. He was trying to replicate the original Spider-Man’s power as part of his research. A series of unfortunate (or fortunate depending on your point of view I guess) led to Miguel having his DNA spliced with a spider’s leaving him with 50% spider DNA. His powers are slightly different from the norm. He doesn’t have a Spider-sense, but instead has super enhanced vision. He can wall-crawl but only using the talons on his hands and feet, not any part of his body like Peter Parker Spidey. Miguel also has a piece of advanced tech, Lyla, who is his AI virtual assistant/parter. I set her up as a separate powerset, because Miguel really uses her as such in the comics.

So, let me know what you think. Any other 2099-verse fans out there?

Very cool! Hows about a Ravage? I personally also enjoyed most of the X-Men 2099 team.

We can definitely look at doing a 2099 week sometime soon. Thanks for the idea!

He has both talons d6 and weapons d8? Which weapon is that?

It allows for him using his webs as weapons.
