Monday Milestones: The Avengers

It’s time for another Monday Milestone!

This week we’ve got THE iconic Marvel team: The Avengers.

I have to say, I had a lot of fun coming up with these milestones. Especially the “I’m Not Worthy” path. I had even more fun with the tie-in datafile we’ll release later this week.

This time I’m not going to tell you who it is. Take a guess in the comments (one guess per person). For the first person who guesses right, I’ll create a datafile for the Marvel hero of your choice. If we ask Mark real nice, maybe he’ll format it up pretty for you too.

I would guess Hawkeye based on the comic continuity.

    Hank Pym?

I’m getting a definite Clint Barton/Hawkeye vibe from these milestones–they seem to set up his “smartmouth criminal no one trusts” to “essential avenger/sometimes field leader” arc very well.

The second one really would for Justice when he first joined the Avengers.

I don’t think “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” is a good milestone. The first two triggers in milestones are often repeatable, encouraging the players to be in character throughout a session. This is one and done. My write up would look more like:
1xp when you engage a foe you cannot defeat alone.
3xp when you call on another hero to help you or are called upon by another hero.
10xp when you confront a foe no single superhero can withstand and in the aftermath formally make the permanent or disband the team.

To clarify something. When “first” is used in these milestones, or the milestones in the official rules, it’s my understanding that this means “first time in a scene” not “first time ever”. So in the case of the “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” path, I used the “first” limiter to prevent over-use of the “Avengers Assemble” line in a single scene.

I’ve been informed that this is a FAQ, and it will be addressed on the official site once it gets up and running. I’ve simply been using the same terminology as the milestones listed in the Basic Rulebook.

Great milestones. Loved the “Avengers Assemble!” idea.
