Announcements: Pet Avengers on Hold (Plus Some Notes), Sinister Six Week

Today is a quick post. Just to keep you all tuned in.

First, the Pet Avengers. Overall, the response to our little micro-event has been great. We’re happy with the way that’s turning out. If you’ve gotten this far without reading the title, then let me fill you in. We’re going to put Pet Avengers on hold for a week. There’s nothing bad going on here. It’s a timing thing. That’s the up and the down of it.

Secondly, next week, The Amazing Spider-Man is hitting theaters. In an attempt to stay involved with pop culture (like we do), we’re devoting next week to Spider-Man Villains. This is what’s suspending Pet Avengers. By the time next week is done, you should be able to put together your very own Sinister Six. In fact, this might even give you the tools you’ll need to run a brief villain centered game. Who know exactly what the future holds.

Now, some thoughts as we stand at the midpoint of the Pet Avengers Civil WarEvent.

By our design, this Event is shortExtremely short. It’s probably a three-issue arc, at best. One of my original concerns was with XP. What’s the point of tracking XP if you’ve only got one or two scenes to use them? After some exploration, there are a few solutions:

  1. If this is being run as a one-shot or a con game, the onus falls on everyone to spend those XP almost as quickly as you gain them. The XP budget needs to be more immediate in order for it to have any relevance at all. This means that impulse spending can be very rewarding.
  2. If you are using this Event as a break in the middle of running the main Civil War Event, each player carries over their XP from one part to the next. In this scenario, you’re encouraged to save XP a bit more. Players should also carry their XP from previous sessions and have them available for use in the Pet Avengers (we will be releasing some unlockables linked to the event). The same holds true if you are using this event as a campaign kickoff.

That’s one of the more pressing ideas running through my head with Pet Avengers. Does anyone have questions at this point? If there are concerns, I’d love to take the time to address them. Tell us in the comments!

Very timely! Especially with a lot of the core “Daily Bugle” folks in Civil War
