Announcing The Pet Avengers: Civil War

Lockheed the Dragon and Tippy Toe the Squirrel have a run-in with the Infinity Mind Gem. What they see frightens them. The Civil war threatens all heroes, be they pro-registration or otherwise. If the heroes of Earth can’t resolve their differences, who will protect the innocent? who will fight for justice in a world where evil runs free. Worse yet, who will fill the water bowls? It all hinges on the Pet Avengers. Pet Avengers: UNLEASH!

This week, we here at Plot Points are going a little off the rails. We present for your enjoyment something that can tie right in to the upcoming Civil War. It’s probably best if you run this as the war moves to its later stages. This mini-event is Pet Avengers: Civil War.

We have been trying to work out the best way to get an original event put together here. I think everyone has been hotly anticipating Civil War. We thought about throwing together a “What If..?” styled event. Even better, we thought we could throw together an event that fits cleanly into the regular canon but doesn’t conflict with a single panel of the official story. We imagined something that could slide in right under the noses of the main heroes. The Pet Avengers were an easy choice.

You might be curious why, of all the possible scenarios the mighty Marvel Universe has to offer, we’d go with something as ridiculous as an original mini-event featuring the Fabulous Furry Four-Footed Furious Few? We’re actually not too sure ourselves. In all seriousness, we just finished a pretty heavy story here with the Secret War, and we thought it might be a good idea to take a break from weighty, moody storytelling. Cleanse the palate a little. Do something goofy. Here we are.

We also get a neat little opportunity here. It’s not often you get the chance to roleplay as something distinctly not human. Most superheroes follow a pretty recognizable shape. Would it be fun to play a dog? Would it be fun to play a miniature dragon, a squirrel, or a falcon? How far can you stretch the system if you’re not constrained by human abilities, human motivations, or even human forms? Personally, I always though that Lockheed got a little short-changed being relegated to little more than a power set on Kitty Pride’s datafile. Show me the dragon, I say.

I think I speak for us all when I say we hope you enjoy the silliness, and we’d love to hear what everyone thinks of our effort here

Lockheed, Pet Avenger & Agent of S.W.O.R.D.
Can’t wait to see that Datafile

  2. And here I thought we were just going to get a datafile. This is better than I could have possibly imagined!

  3. Interesting. It’s a pity the Young Avengers/Runaways Supplement is a while away… Old Lace might make an interesting (non-canon) Pet Avenger.

Who says we’d have to wait? Old Lace could absolutely happen.

Hey, while we’re thinking about it: Are there any non-Pet Avenger animals in the Marvel universe you’d all like to see as datafiles? Let us know.

I can think of a few.

Aragorn, horse of both Black Knight and the Valkyrie
Hugin & Munin, ravens of Asgard
      Bill the Cyber-Lobster

On the villainous side, how about the Red Ghost’s Super-Apes?

        1) Aragorn is a neat idea
        2) I’m iffy about Hugin and Munin, mainly because we already have Throg (Frog-Thor)
        3) must research Bill the Cyber-Lobster.

        Villains? We’ll see where that goes… 🙂

Sounds good. I’m looking for something to run at a con and this might be fun…

    Here’s a couple for ya:

    Redwing (The Falcon’s companion)

Nidhogg (Dragon found in Niflheim in many of the Thor books)

I realize and respect that Jormungand may be too much to ask, but Nidhogg could be a fun one shot type of replacement for him.

If you all wanted to be ambitious, you could think about Fin Fang Foom………

    • I thought Redwing was already a Pet Avenger.

Fing Fang Foom… as a Pet (let alone a Pet Avenger)? Can someone DO that? Or did you mean as a villian?

I meant for him and Nidhogg as villains. I don’t know alot about the pet avengers, so I wasn’t sure if Redwing was among them.

Would you accept Tippy Toe instead? I think Monkey Joe is dead by the time of Civil War.

Yeah, Monkey Joe was killed and then replaced with Tippy Toe.

      • I would accept this.

I wrote up datafiles for the Pet Avengers a while ago, so it will be interesting to see how similarly and differently we stat them out!

    and alternates:

I only have one milestone for each though. 🙂

Your alternates are pretty cool. You very well may see some of them here, although not quite how you suspect.
