Plot Points Poll: Next Plot Points Event

Since we are coming to the end of our Secret War event, we are starting to think about what we are going to do next. That’s where you come in. We’ve been kicking around some ideas, but what do YOU want to see? Would you like us to do another adaption of a Published Event, or come up with something new and original?

Vote in the poll below and let us know! We will leave it up until this Saturday.

If you do a published event, I would vote for Acts of Vengeance. It involves a lot of heroes and teams, and a ton of villains(villains being primarily what I would like to have more of). Just a thought. Give me more villains!!!

Whatever it is, it should have the Serpent Society in it. 🙂

  3. If Original Event wins, I look foward to seeing what that entails.

    X-men based event please

There are so many cool Events fondly remembered from my childhood. Mostly those that ran through the Annuals. Atlantis Attacks, Evolutionary War…. But Jason’s suggestion is killer. ACTS OF VENGEANCE. Would be a nice fit with that certain bad guy being very much in the spotlight now and the secret string-puller of the Event.

But… I’ll enjoy whatever you should do.

You know, the more I think about it, the more Acts of Vengeance might be pretty interesting, especially since it can potentially involved a wide range of Marvel characters. Heck, and I can even think of one really big unlockable power set that would involve the epilogue of the story . . .

The problem is, I don’t think it is available on Comixology. We have to pick Events that we can actually read.

Also acts of vengeance makes more sense when you have all the “groups” each mix-macthing of diferent villains. We had some ideas of cool story lines (like infinity gauntlet) but they just don’t translate well.

I was just poking through Marvel’s Digital subscription as well, and I noticed the list of digitized comics under this event is incomplete. Right off the bat none of the issues of Avengers shows up.

How about, if you go with something recent that isn’t likely to get covered, that you have already done some of the work on, you do the opening arc of Brubaker’s Secret Avengers? It might be interesting to see what tweaks you would put on “non-Cap” Steve Rogers.

I like that story line! I totaly see it as a possibility….

If you are trying to keep within the timeline of what they are publishing, I’d recommend World War Hulk!

How would you do the WWH? With Hulk being the “baddie” or the main guy on a revenge mission?

      • Dan Bacon
        May 21, 2012

Hulk and the Warbound are the baddies.
Scene 1: Hulk tracks down Reed Richards. Players play Fantastic Four or other FF Friends. If Doom pool gets to 2d12 or All heroes stressed out, then Hulk battles everyone down enough to snag Reed and jump away from the scene.
Scene 2: Hulk tracks down Prof X. Similar scenario except players play X-Men.
Scene 3: Iron Man leads Avengers against direct assault. Run into the Warbound.
Scene 4: Players get to play characters thrown into Hulk’s Arena (originally illuminati, but could be anyone stressed out from previous scenes). Players fight each other (might be tricky), or Players fight Hulk and Warbound. If Hulk wins, then Scene 5 is Hulk vs Sentry. Players try to minimize the fallout. If Hulk loses arena fight, then it’s players trying to stop Warbound from blowing up city.
That’s just a quick sketch. Plenty of room to tweak it. I’d have to read WWH again to get any of the cooler little details in there from the story itself.

      • Or, you could follow the example from Secret War, and have one player take the role of Hulk, the Watcher commands the Warbound (perfect for their eventual betrayal), and the other heroes take on the role of the victims.

I’d like to see Secret Wars (1984) after you finish up Secret War (2004).

This is a hard poll to respond to, because you are producing such quality on this site for the game that pretty much whatever you want to do I will say yes to. However, I weighed in on the “original event” side, because I know that a creative challenge like that will really bring out the best in you guys. I guess if I could throw in an additional pitch, it would be for the original event to be in the magic worlds of Marvel. Of the upcoming official events, none really touch on the mystical and magic worlds of Doctor Strange, Captain Britain and MI 13, Ghost Rider, or even the more epic mythological realms of Asgard and Olympus (with some of my all time favorite stuff, Pak and Van Lente’s Hercules and SImonson’s Thor). Seeing you guys delve into those dimensions for an event would be pretty awesome, and not something on the current near term publishing agenda for MWP. However, whatever you do will be most appreciated (e.g. love the Secret Avengers idea).

I have my own ideias, that i still haven’t shared with my co-writters.

The main problem with setting-specific material is that it limits the reach among players. FF have some amazing storylines, but not everybody is found Marvel’s First Family. I think that stories like Secret War (either version) and the Breakout scenario have a broader appeal.

WWH! Players literally can play any faction from any part of the Marvel U.

oooh how about an Original Event that follows up on that idea that Shawn gave ya’ll over in the “Monday Milestones: Inhumans” post.

another dark secret of the Illuminati is about to be exposed! the members of the Illuminati (and any other heroes they call to assist them) must gather in order to keep this secret unexposed.

if they fail, it could mean the End of All That Is! 🙂

If not the Serpent Society, then Batroc’s Brigade ?
Would be nice to have something more street level, like the Bloodstone Hunt from Cap #357… action, adventure, dastardly villains… and a damsel in pink 😉

      May 21, 2012

Cap and Hulk are my all-time faves, and “Bloodstone Hunt” was around the time I became a major collector. Good stuff.

Gets me thinking… Maybe a “solo” original Event would be interesting. I bet there are many who are introducing MHR to just one friend, or pairs of friends trying RPGs for the first time.

Joe Fixit Hulk… that would be a kick.

      Or… a Pantheon Event.

You could always do a What If story. What’s great with that is it can be based on published event and/or an original event. Like say What if the Fantastic Four was not around to stop Galactus. Could be a way to use one of those Fantastic Four milestones, especially if the characters become the NEW Fantastic Four.

I voted for an original event. I think something introductory for player-created characters would be perfect. Thanks for such a great blog and please keep up the outstanding work.

I’d like something a bit deeper than the current Secret War event. IMO that’s a bit small to call it really an event – it’s of course perfectly comparable to Breakout, which is also a mini-event. But I’d like to see a bigger structure than that, with several acts.

    • Andrew Gatlin
      May 24, 2012

An Event is just another name for an adventure. Some are bigger than others. Secret War is bigger than Breakout and smaller than Civil War.

In our “creative meetings” i suggested that we aimmed to do events that were no bigger than 6 issues.

Anything bigger than that could last over months on the blog. Since not everybody could like the event, i think that the fair choice would be to keep it smaller and capable of covering more corners of the Marvel Universe.

even though i voted for an Original Event, if Published Event wins out i’d love to see ya’ll tackle “JLA / AVENGERS” 🙂

nearly every hero in the Marvel U had a panel to themselves and i’d love to see how ya’ll would stat up the Justice League 😉

(and plus, it was one a 4 issue series so it fits the “no bigger than 6 issues” cut off) 🙂

      May 25, 2012

William, one of the only strict rules we do follow here, is that the material produced is tied only and exclusively to Marvel 616 universe. JLA/Avengers is a cool event, and i love it!
But, at least for now, DC characters are out of bounds.

One of the ideias i put on the table was the “serpent crown” saga, where the avengers face the Squadron Supreme. Not actualy the JLA, but close enought.

      • William Patrick Butler
        May 25, 2012

ooooh, the Squadron Supreme would be cool! besides, like Hawkeye said in JLA/Avengers, the JLA are just “a bunch of Squadron Supreme wannabes” anyway 😉

(and i’d love to see an [Item Power Set] for the Serpent Crown) 🙂

I’d like to throw out there a Red Skull / Hydra event. Maybe Red Skull comes back into power over hydra, could also include his elite guys like Crossbones, Sin and Madame Viper. Basically, GIVE ME RED SKULL !!! Winter Soldier too…
And while your at it I’ll take a Bullseye write up too!

  22. Shawn Schmitting
    May 25, 2012

Decimation would be cool to see. Also a good lead to Civil War. Only issue I can see is that it is more of an “x-men” storyline.

  23. So Original it is. Excellent.

Maybe Published should be the one after next, to start a Published-Original-Published-Original-Published-Original pattern?
